I'm a van
I'm a 1994 Toyota Hiace Super Custom Deluxe 4x4. My steering wheel is on the right side because I'm from Japan. The guy who drives me calls me Moonunit. I think it's a funny name but it makes him happy.
I'm getting a makeover
Because I'm going on a long journey
Let me tell you about some of the things that I'm going to have worked on:
- I'd love an engine upgrade. There's a 1KD-FTV turbodiesel engine and transmission that will increase my power and efficiency. I'll get two more gears and over 50% more horsepower. It comes from a 2001-2005 era Landcruiser, has 60k miles and it translates directly into my engine bay. It also has what's called a global power plant, which means repairs and parts will be easier for us to find. I'll get about 20% better fuel economy, and my emissions will be much lower. I'd like this turbodieseI better than the naturally aspirated diesel I have because right now I get too hot at high altitudes during the summer sometimes and on cold mornings it's tough for me to get going.
- I also want bigger tires because I hear some of the roads where I'm going are sad and old. I like Yokohama because they're Japanese too, and fit me well.
- It would be really great to put my new tires on some new Bilstein shocks and struts. Moonunits need to be able to go over moon rocks comfortably.
- I'm going to get some cool new tech gear. I'll have an AEG digital dash and control center. No more mess of wires to deal with in my dash. That's going to be connected to 4G. This will help keep us connected and safe in remote places. I’ll also get a dashcam and a back up camera so I can keep watch and cover my ass. All these goodies are going to connect to a mobile mini solar array that can help me power up while I'm taking a siesta.
- The solar panel can be kept up top under the roof-rack when we're not using it. I'll also have a Yakima Skybox to keep tools and extra gear locked up safe and that way I won't feel so full all the time. I'll have a nice fan so I can keep my cargo bay cool. I want the guy who drives me to sleep well because that's better for both of us
- I'm going to guard my grill with a bullbar, if I can, and add a winch up there too in case I get stuck somewhere, or need to help somebody out.
- There will be a lockable gate on my rear and we can keep our waste back there with an extra tire, because that's a smart way to do things.
- I'm obviously going to get some cool tint too. I deserve my privacy and my future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.
